Akron was once home to a thriving shoe-making industry. Each New Year’s Eve, to commemorate this history, the town holds a “Shoe-In.” This festive event includes children’s activities, carriage rides, music and a bonfire. In addition, a giant sneaker is lowered at midnight. (We have no idea what they would lower if the town had once been home to a thriving liquid waste management industry, but we’re pretty sure you’d want to step out of the way.)
Did you accidentally flush one of your sneakers during the last Shoe-In? Better give us a call.
