There are two stories about the origin of Elizabethtown’s name. In one, the town is named for Elizabeth Reeby, wife of the man that sold many of the original lots in 1795. In the other, it’s named for the wife of Captain Barnabus Hughes. Since the Captain was 6’ 4” and weighed 260 pounds, his version of history is usually accepted (if you know what’s good for you).
If you know what’s good for you, you’ll give us a call about your septic tank! Don’t make us send Captain Hughes over there.
